Property Styling – To do or not to do?

It will boil down to many factors including the condition of your home and the buyer demographics to whom we are targeting.

Selling a home starts with getting your property put onto buyers inspection and shopping lists. We need to make your home as appealing as possible to our target market so we not just get them into your property but get your home on their “must buy” list.

The basics are:

Clean the grounds and mow the lawns. Get the outside of your home looking clean, tidy and inviting. Bark chips or mulch are an inexpensive and easy way to tidy and define gardens. Your local council may even have free mulch for residents.

Get as much light as possible into the house. Time the open for inspections for the best light conditions for your home. Pull back the curtains and open the blinds to get light and airflow into your home.

Get it smelling fresh and clean. Nothing is worse than a stale, damp or wet dog smelling home to put buyers off.

Declutter and reduce the amount of furniture to create a feeling of space, light, fresh air and flow in your home. We all tend to have a bit too much “stuff” in our homes that we might love but that may put buyers off and can make even large rooms look smaller.

Finish all those unfinished jobs around the house. Paint where necessary, fill any cracks on internal walls, clean the windows, carpets and floors.

Clean and freshen bathrooms. A clean, bright, fresh smelling bathroom is a huge plus to buyers

Keep your kitchen clean, uncluttered and smelling great. Clean and declutter inside your cupboards. If your market is to Asian Australians and you have an electric cook top consider updating to gas.

We at Macartney are happy to give you our advise as to getting your home ready to market. Discuss the degree of styling recommended together with the multipliers on the sale price you could expect with this investment.

If your home is targeting Asian Australian buyers we will give you a report based on their requirements. We are also happy to send in our specialist interior designer Dimitra Oldham from Staging Designs to either assist with minor tweaking or a total makeover.
